The velocity of freezing and thickness of Baikal ice depends on the
depth, and snow cover, which in the beginning produces warm effect,
slowing down the thickness growing. With increasing of the sun radiation
ice under snow grows at the same time the crystal ice, without snow,
absorbs the sun rays why the water surface heats and ice continue to
melt. When snow cover is thick the thickness of ice can reach up to
70 cm in northern regions and 100 cm in southern.
