From complete freezing to breaking up Baikal is still ice-bound for 4-4.5 months in the south and 6-6.5 months in the north. The most part of this time ice is constantly developing and can reach 1.3 meter thickness (seldom 1.5-2 meters). In the picture: hummocks at the North-western shore.
