The total area of the forest reserve of Lake Baikal basin is 20 248,5
thousand hectares, including forest covered area of 16 793,5 thousand
hectares. The coniferous forests occupie 77,5 % of the forest covered
area, including the larch forests - 33,5, pine forests - 29,1, Siberian stone pine
forests- 12,2, spruce and fir forests - 2,7 %. The larch species
prevail on 11.8 % of area, thickets of bushes (mainly creeping cedar)
- on 10,6 %.
The forest covered area has descreased for 19,6 thousand hectares, the dark
coniferous forests for 55,8 thousand hectares and the area of larch
forests has increased for 31,1 thousand hectares (including
plantations with Siberian stone pine seedling growth)in the whole in the region.
