Almost the whole history of planet Earth is imprinted on the stone chronicles of Baikal shores. In the picture: the deepest hollow of Baikal (maximum depth is 1642 meters) is opposite to the steep eastern bank of Olkhon Island (at Cape Izhemey). There are 4.5 kilometers of friable sediments under it. The crystal Baikal foundation is on the 7 kilometer depth from the lake surface.
